Antarctica Expedition

Buenos Aires · Ushuaia · Antarctic Peninsula

Duration · 12 DaysFrom · Price on applicationAntarctica Destination guide →

A suggested 12-day journey combining Buenos Aires with an expedition cruise from Ushuaia to the Antarctic Peninsula. This is a sample itinerary, not a confirmed sailing: the ship, cabin, hotels, inclusions and exact schedule will be confirmed in your quote. Landings and wildlife sightings depend on weather, ice and the expedition leader's decisions. Allow extra travel days from Australia and a buffer before onward flights.

Day by day

  1. Day 1 — Arrive Buenos Aires

Arrive in Argentina's capital and settle into your proposed pre-cruise hotel. Keep the afternoon free to recover from your international journey.

  2. Day 2 — Buenos Aires to Ushuaia

Take a separately quoted flight to Ushuaia, the gateway to Antarctica. Stay overnight before embarkation and check your expedition equipment with the operator.

  3. Day 3 — Embark in Ushuaia

Board your selected expedition vessel in the afternoon. Meet the expedition team, attend safety and environmental briefings, and sail through the Beagle Channel.

  4. Day 4 — Drake Passage

Begin the ocean crossing. Attend talks on Antarctic wildlife, geology and exploration, with seabird watching from the deck when conditions permit.

  5. Day 5 — Approach Antarctica

Continue across the Drake Passage and prepare for Zodiac excursions. The first sight of the South Shetland Islands or Antarctic Peninsula depends on the vessel's progress and sea conditions.

  6. Day 6 — South Shetland Islands

Subject to safe conditions and permits, explore island coastlines by Zodiac or on foot. The team selects suitable sites for observing penguins, seals and volcanic landscapes.

  7. Day 7 — Antarctic Peninsula

Cruise among glaciers and iceberg-filled bays. Potential landings offer time for guided walks and photography; locations are chosen on the day to protect wildlife and ensure safety.

  8. Day 8 — Icebergs & wildlife

Continue exploring the peninsula with planned Zodiac outings and shore visits, conditions permitting. Look for whales and seals without disturbing them; sightings cannot be guaranteed.

  9. Day 9 — Final Antarctic exploration

Enjoy a final planned day among Antarctic scenery before the vessel turns north. Kayaking or other activities may be available at extra cost, subject to your ship, advance booking and weather.

  10. Day 10 — Return across the Drake

Sail back towards South America. Join onboard presentations, review photographs and reflect on the expedition with fellow travellers.

  11. Day 11 — At sea

Continue the return crossing towards the Beagle Channel. Arrival timing remains dependent on sea conditions and your chosen sailing.

  12. Day 12 — Disembark in Ushuaia

Disembark after arrival in Ushuaia. Arrange a post-cruise stay or a suitably timed onward flight in your quote; avoid tight connections because expedition schedules can change.
