A suggested 12-day private journey pairing Peru's food, Inca heritage and scenic rail travel with Rio's coastal energy. Start in the lower Sacred Valley before staying in Cusco to allow a gentler altitude adjustment. This sample plan is customisable: hotels, guiding, flights, entry permits and all inclusions are subject to availability and your final written quote. Allow additional days for international travel from Australia.

Day by day

  1. Day 1 — Arrive Lima

Arrive in Peru's capital and settle into your proposed boutique or luxury hotel. Enjoy a relaxed evening in Miraflores or beside the Pacific coast.

  2. Day 2 — Lima's culture & cuisine

Plan a privately guided visit to the historic centre and a museum such as the Larco Museum. Allow time to discover Peruvian cuisine; restaurant bookings and meals can be added to your quote.

  3. Day 3 — Fly to Cusco & transfer to the Sacred Valley

Take a separately quoted flight to Cusco and continue directly to the lower Sacred Valley. Keep the day gentle, hydrate and rest; altitude can still affect travellers here.

  4. Day 4 — Sacred Valley

Explore selected Inca sites and local communities with your guide, such as Pisac or Ollantaytambo. Visits and walking levels can be adapted to your interests and how you feel at altitude.

  5. Day 5 — Scenic rail to Aguas Calientes

Travel by your selected rail service towards Machu Picchu, subject to seat availability. Stay overnight in Aguas Calientes to prepare for your reserved visit the next day.

  6. Day 6 — Machu Picchu & onward to Cusco

Visit Machu Picchu with a guide on the circuit and entry time confirmed by your permit. Return by train and road to Cusco. Specific circuits and mountain hikes are not guaranteed and require separate permits.

  7. Day 7 — Cusco at your own pace

Discover Inca stonework, colonial streets and selected heritage sites on a gentle guided visit. Leave the afternoon free for rest, galleries or a café; reduce activity if altitude symptoms occur.

  8. Day 8 — Travel to Rio de Janeiro

Fly to Rio using the connection available for your travel dates, often via another city. This is a travel day; flight schedules may require an extra overnight or a revised itinerary.

  9. Day 9 — Rio's iconic views

Plan visits to Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain with your guide. Tickets, opening arrangements and visibility depend on availability and weather.

  10. Day 10 — Rio's neighbourhoods

Explore Santa Teresa and selected city sights, with time along Ipanema or Copacabana. A Brazilian dining experience can be arranged and priced separately.

  11. Day 11 — A day to make your own

Enjoy a relaxed day in Rio. Optional guided nature outings, a boat trip or additional cultural visits can be quoted, subject to weather and local availability.

  12. Day 12 — Depart Rio

Arrange an airport transfer for your onward flight. Ask your consultant about extending the journey to Iguazu Falls, Buenos Aires or the Amazon; extensions add days and cost.
